Self-Creators is an educational programme for young people 15-19 y.o from Ida-Viru County.
The main aim of the program is to empower young people towards their active participation in the local community.
Challenges that we want to address within the project: Ida-Virumaa region is quite isolated from the rest of Estonia and the world because of the demographic, social and economic situation and we would like to address negative issues and needs related to that: fear and low tolerance to different and unfamiliar; lack of personal connections with representatives of different cultures and positive international experience, while being negatively influenced by media: human trafficking, terror, etc; a low sense of citizenship and level of participation; the negative reputation of Ida-Virumaa and, as a result, emigration out of the region. In Ida-Viru the highest unemployment rate and the lowest standard of living in Estonia. Many people including young people influenced by Russian media and not able to deal with disinformation and fake news.
Within the project, we want to support Ida-Virumaa youth in developing competencies that will help them to define themselves as active citizens and empower them towards active participation in the local community and improving the situation in the region.
